Site #5
This morning we took a bike ride around the campground to the Wilderness Area. At the end of the road, there is a 7-mile trail, which we may do tomorrow. We checked out the cabins. They are very nice and right on the bay. We also rode into the boat launch area, which is equipped with a playground and a pavilion with 10 picnic tables.
White Crane
At the boat launch area, there was a two man kayak being launched and a few people out in a fishing boat. Ed was jealous. We came back to the LD, had lunch and took off for St. George Island which is about 35 miles from St. Joe SP. We drove into historic Apalachicola which could have been very interesting, but it being Sunday, most of the stores were closed.
I just couldn't help myself. Could this bug be any cuter?
.
We stopped at the St. George Island lighthouse, but didn't walk up since Ed is still having problems with his toes.
We drove out to the St. George Island State Park. They allowed us to do a drive through. The layout reminded us of Grayton Beach SP. The campground is a car ride to the beach. As we drove through St. George SP CG we spotted these guys posing for us. I hurried to get the camera, but there was no need. These guys never moved.
As we drove back into St. Joe, we saw 5 more does. They are everywhere here. This evening, we took our chairs to the beach and watched the sunset along with three other couples. It was beautiful. We have decided to stay at least one more day here, maybe two.
We shared the beach with one lone sandpiper.
There are many positives about St. Joseph Peninsula SP. We are close enough to walk to the beach and
the entrance is right across from us here at Site #5. Also, bathhouse/restrooms and trash bins are
within close proximity. In addition, we
get excellent reception here on the rooftop satellite dish. We can get a cell phone signal, although not
a strong one. When we come back, we will
definitely stay in this area.
Of course, tonight we watched the Super Bowl. Ed watched the game, I watched the
commercials. Another wonderful day!!
